The Southwestern Spartan men kicked off the second half of the season with a trip North to Estherville, Iowa to take on the #17-ranked Lakers of Iowa Lakes. In a back-and-forth battle, a Laker lay-up with :02 on the clock pushed the game into overtime at 80-80. The Spartan offense got cold at the wrong time, getting down by 12 early in overtime and eventually falling to the Lakers, 102-91.
The Spartans were again led offensively by Freshman forward, James Kelley. Kelley led all scorers in his double-double effort, netting 26 points and 10 rebounds. Right behind on the offensive end was Freshman guard, Donzell Johnson, finishing with 23 points and 5 of 10 from beyond the arc.
The Spartans get a chance to defend their home court this Saturday as the Tritons from Iowa Central come to town. The women tip at 1:00 p.m. and the men to follow.
