Southwestern sophomore guard Alijah Thomas was named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week for men's basketball, March 5-11, following a stellar performance during the Spartans' three-game run to the national tournament.
Southwestern became the back-to-back Region XI Division II Champions on Saturday, March 10, after knocking off DMACC, #19 Iowa Lakes, and Iowa Central in a five-day run.
According to the ICCAC website, "Alijah Thomas was the catalyst, filling the stat sheet for the Spartans. He shot 48 percent in 98 minutes of play. Over the three games, Thomas averaged 17.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and four assists."
Thomas is one of six returning players from the Spartans' 2017 national champion team. The Spartans will return to Danville, IL, next week as the #5 seed in defense of their 2017 NJCAA DII National Championship.
