Southwestern battled through a demanding start to ICCAC play on Tuesday night, falling 70–48 to visiting Iowa Western in Spartan Gymnasium. The Spartans matched the Reivers early, opening with a 14–14 first quarter, but Iowa Western's perimeter shooting and second-chance opportunities gradually widened the gap as the night progressed.
Fantine Adgnot once again set the tone offensively for Southwestern, delivering a steady 20-point performance that included five three-pointers. Her confidence on the perimeter kept the Spartans within reach through much of the first half. Jaide McPhee continued her strong early-season form as well, finishing with 13 points and a team-high six rebounds while working through heavy defensive pressure inside.
Jordyn Hall contributed five points and three assists while battling foul trouble, and Maddie Richter provided a lift off the bench with five points and five boards. Defensively, Southwestern showed stretches of composed half-court execution, highlighted by stretches of contested possessions in the third and fourth quarters. However, Iowa Western's depth and balance—most notably 17 points from Sydney Donaldson and 13 from Aniyah Howard—proved difficult to neutralize as the Reivers pulled away.
Southwestern shot 28.8% from the field and 29.2% from three, while Iowa Western connected on 11 threes and held a 42–29 advantage on the glass. Despite the final margin, the Spartans continued to compete through the closing minutes, outscoring the Reivers in points from the free-throw line and finding late rhythm in transition.
Southwestern moves to 3–4 on the season and 0–1 in ICCAC play. The Spartans return to action on Monday, December 1, when they host Peru State College JV, seeking to reset and build momentum entering the heart of the conference slate.
