Spartans Rally for Season-Opening Win at Metropolitan, 52–46

Kansas City, MO

The Southwestern Community College women's basketball team opened the 2025–26 season in resilient fashion Saturday afternoon, rallying from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Metropolitan Community College, 52–46.

The Spartans (1–0) battled through early offensive struggles, scoring just 11 points in the first half and trailing 25–11 at the break. But their defense kept them within reach, and a determined second-half surge turned the tide. Southwestern outscored the Wolves 17–10 in the third quarter before dominating the fourth, 24–11, to complete the comeback.

"We dug a hole early but showed resilience and fought together to finish with the win," said Head Coach Kori Zarzutzki. "I'm so proud of the team for the toughness they showed in the second half."

Scoring was balanced across the roster, as all nine Spartans who saw the floor contributed points. Fantine Adgnot led the team with 11 points, including two made threes, while Jaide McPhee added nine points and steady perimeter play. Off the bench, Roslynn Huston delivered a double-digit rebounding performance, grabbing 12 boards to go with seven points, anchoring a Spartan squad that won the rebounding battle 45–34.

Tammy Scott and Jordyn Hall were forces on the glass, adding seven and six rebounds respectively, as Southwestern's frontcourt established its presence in the second half. The defensive effort was equally impressive, forcing 18 turnovers and holding Metropolitan to just 25.8% shooting from the field.

Southwestern finished the night shooting 26.2% from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range, while connecting on 13 of 20 from the free throw line (65%).

The Spartans now turn their attention to the JCCC Classic, where they'll compete November 7–8 in Overland Park, Kansas, looking to build on their season-opening win and early defensive identity.
