| Phone: | 641.782.1452 |
Ty Curry stepped into the head role in women’s basketball at Southwestern Community College in Creston in April 2026, moving to Iowa from Prince George County, Virginia, where he was the interim head women’s basketball coach at Richard Bland College, where he had coached and taught since June 2024.
During his stint at Richard Bland, Curry oversaw all aspects of program operations, including budgeting, scheduling, travel, and compliance. While coaching there, the team made the Region X quarterfinals in 2024-25, competed well versus ranked teams, recruited and mentored an all-region honorable mention guard, and guided four student-athletes to four-year basketball programs.
Curry said his goal at Southwestern is to compete for Region 11 championships while bringing contagious energy to SWCC communities and the college staff. He strives to build women’s programs rooted in high character, a hard work ethic, and accountability—both on- and off-the-court. He wants the team to represent SWCC with pride by putting an honest, competitive product on the floor and in the community that will make the college and the state of Iowa proud.
Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Curry was an assistant high school basketball coach at Doherty High School, a 6A school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has coached travel teams and has assisted at summer basketball camps in Colorado.
Curry earned a Master of Science degree in sports leadership from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts; a Bachelor of Arts degree in human development & family studies, with a minor in psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver in Aurora, Colorado; and an Associate of Arts degree in psychology from Pikes Peak State College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was also a scholarship student-athlete at Nebraska Christian College in Papillion, Nebraska.
