Creston, IOWA—Following a two-year hiatus, Southwestern’s sports shooting program will return during the 2026-27 academic year, and Winterset’s Erin Kinney is one of the first commitments to the program.

Kinney is currently a freshman at Southwestern, assisting Head Sports Shooting Coach Mark Johnson with bringing the program back for fall. She is currently in charge of the program’s social media presence.

Johnson looks forward to seeing Kinney grow even more as a student-athlete next year.

“Being a first-year coach, I couldn’t have asked for a better student-athlete to assist me with getting started,” Johnson said. “Erin has so much energy, and she has already done so much for the program. I can’t wait to see her compete head-to-head during shoots next year.”

Kinney, a 2025 Winterset High School graduate, is the daughter of Phil and Rebekah Kinney of Winterset. She is a liberal arts major and plans to earn her Associate of Arts at the end of the fall 2026 semester, and then transfer to a four-year university.
