The Southwestern Spartans picked up a home doubleheader sweep of Ellsworth Community College on Tuesday at Creston, earning 10–2 and 7–6 victories to improve to 3–1 on the young season.
Southwestern set the tone early in the opener, scoring four runs in the first inning and never looking back in the 10–2 win. Sydney Cain led the offensive charge with a three-run performance, including a home run, while Clara O'Brien added two hits and two RBI. The Spartans totaled 11 hits and stole four bases in the contest. In the circle, Bailey Hosbach earned the win, allowing just two runs (one earned) while striking out three over five innings of work.
Game two proved more competitive, but the Spartans once again found timely offense to secure the sweep. Brianna Mitchell delivered a standout all-around performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI, including a pair of doubles. Joslyn Policky and Emma Moore each posted multi-hit games as Southwestern finished with 14 hits. Mitchell also went the distance in the circle, pitching all seven innings to earn the win as the Spartans held on for the 7–6 decision.
With the pair of wins, Southwestern Community College starts unbeaten at home this season and carries a two-game winning streak into their upcoming neutral-site games later this week.
