Spartans Claim Third Straight Title at Graceland Fall Invitational

LAMONI, Iowa – Southwestern men's golf continued its strong start to the fall season with a first-place finish at the Graceland Fall Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Lamoni Golf and Country Club. The Spartans carded a team score of +7, topping North Central Missouri by four shots to claim their third straight team title.

Sophomore Freddie Muggeridge once again led the way, capturing medalist honors with a round of 68 (-4). The victory marked Muggeridge's third consecutive individual title this fall, following wins at the NIACC Invitational and War at the Moor.

Southwestern's lineup also saw steady play from its supporting cast. Alexander Cordrey (+3), Elliot Lorentzon (+4), and Lake Elling (+4) each finished inside the top-20, while Shane Sweeney rounded out the A team at +6.

The Spartans' B team placed seventh in the 10-team field, led by Justin Miller, who shot +2 to finish tied for sixth overall. Ryan Stiles carded a +3, Davis Doud posted +9, and Evan Powell added a +10.

Head Coach Doug North noted the group's ability to compete despite not being at their sharpest.

"This was far from our best, but a good job by Freddie for hanging in and battling to maintain a good round," North said. "As a whole, we are good at not wasting shots or throwing in the towel when we aren't at our best, and that is a good quality. I'm excited about what is to come."

The win continues an early-season trend for Southwestern, which has now opened the fall with three consecutive first-place finishes.

The Spartans will be back in action Sept. 29–30 at the Battle for the Mississippi, hosted by Blackhawk College at Fyre Lake Golf Club in Sherrard, Ill.
