Fishing for a purpose, Okoboji 10K 2026!

The Okoboji 10K, a scholarship fundraiser for Southwestern's bass fishing student-athletes, is shaping up to be one of the largest and highest-paying bass tournaments in Iowa. With nearly 70 boats registered in the week leading up to the event, approximately 140 anglers will take to the waters of the Iowa Great Lakes on Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7, 2026, for a chance at the tournament's $10,000 first-place prize.

According to Southwestern Head Bass Fishing Coach Cory Dorsey, the college's vision for this event has always been to create a premier tournament experience with a payout and atmosphere unlike any other event in the state, attracting anglers from across Iowa and the Upper Midwest.

Beyond the competition, the Okoboji 10K serves an important purpose for the Southwestern Community College bass fishing team.

"Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships and provide opportunities for current and future student anglers," explains Dorsey. "As participation continues to grow, so does the reach of our program, allowing us to connect with anglers, supporters, and sponsors throughout the region."

Dorsey feels the success of this tournament demonstrates the strength of the fishing community and its willingness to support the next generation of collegiate anglers, while competing for one of the most exciting prizes in Midwest tournament fishing.
