Spartans Dance to Triple Gold at Linn-Mar Lionage Season Opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Southwestern Community College Dance Team opened their 2025 competition season in dominant fashion at the Linn-Mar Lion Lionage, taking home first place in College Pom, College Hip Hop, and College Jazz categories. The Spartans also earned the second-highest scoring routine of the entire day, setting an early-season standard of excellence.

Under the direction of Head Coach Paige Russo, the Spartans showcased their versatility and precision across all three performances. Their routines highlighted both athletic intensity and artistic execution—elements that have become the hallmark of SWCC Dance.

"The Linn Mar Lionage was an incredible kick-off to the start of the season," said Russo. "This competition allows us to take the floor prior to our regional and state events that are coming up. The dancers were able to show what we have been working hard on in practice, and now we'll take the judges' feedback and scores back to the studio to continue our growth."

The early sweep marks an exciting start for the Spartan Dance program, which continues to build momentum ahead of major upcoming events. Next on the schedule is the Ella & Maddie Legacy Competition on November 8, followed by DTU Regionals on November 15.

With confidence, cohesion, and championship-caliber performances already on display, the Spartans are poised for another standout season on the floor.
