Spartans Split Four-Game Road Series at Northern Oklahoma, Return Home Tuesday

The Southwestern Community College baseball team closed out a four-game weekend series with a split on the road against Northern Oklahoma College–Tonkawa, finishing 2–2 after a pair of one-run decisions and two high-scoring contests.

The Spartans opened the series with a tight 4–3 loss in Game 1. Southwestern collected multiple-hit performances from Andres Arroyo, Adrian Ramirez, Will Throckmorton, and Carlos Bencosme, who each recorded two hits. Throckmorton and Bencosme added doubles, while Ramirez launched his first career home run. On the mound, Jorge Guzman worked six innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out five.

Game 2 saw Northern Oklahoma pull away late in a 17–7 decision. Arroyo, Nate Gibbons, Blake Hicklin, and Bryce Mitchell each finished with two hits. Gibbons drove in two runs to lead the Spartans offensively.

Southwestern bounced back in Game 3 with a 5–4 victory. Mitchell led the offense with two hits, while Kyle Bollwinkel drove in two runs. Arroyo and Diego Cepeda each doubled. On the pitching side, Carter Yanke went five innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts. Luis Villanueva earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Jose Aviles secured the save with a scoreless final frame.

The Spartans closed the weekend strong with a 16–5 win in Game 4. Bollwinkel and Cepeda powered the lineup with four-hit performances. Arroyo, Mitchell, and Andrew Culzac added two hits apiece. Cepeda recorded three doubles, with Mitchell, Culzac, and Bencosme each adding one. Bollwinkel tripled and drove in multiple runs as part of the offensive outburst. Throckmorton started on the mound, striking out four in four innings, while Hayden Hanson and Brock Bokelmann combined for three scoreless innings in relief.

Southwestern returns home this afternoon, hosting Iowa Central Community College at 1 p.m. at Spartan Field.
