The Southwestern Community College baseball team opened the 2026 season with a split weekend on the road, finishing 2–2 after a four-game series at Coffeyville Community College.
The Spartans dropped both contests on Friday before responding with a pair of wins on Saturday, showing resilience and depth early in the season.
Saturday's opener saw Southwestern secure a 9–5 victory in seven innings. After falling behind early, the Spartans' offense settled in and produced runs in five different innings. Kohen Bollwinkel led the way with a 4-for-5 performance, adding a double, an RBI, and a stolen base. Alexander Arroyo drove in two runs and reached base four times, while Daniel Cepeda launched a home run and finished with two RBIs. On the mound, Jackson Yanke earned the win, and Wilson Villanueva closed out the final two innings to record the save.
The weekend finale extended to 10 innings, where Southwestern pulled away late for an 8–4 win. Logan Bjerke delivered the decisive blow with a bases-clearing double in the top of the 10th, accounting for four RBIs. Bollwinkel continued his strong weekend, going 3-for-3 with two walks and an RBI, while Anibal Montanez added a two-run home run. Alfred Aviles earned the win in relief, and Andrew Guzman shut the door in the bottom of the 10th to earn the save.
Through four games, the Spartans totaled 22 hits across the two wins and received solid contributions from both the lineup and bullpen. Southwestern now turns its attention to another road series next week at Northern Oklahoma College–Tonkawa as the season continues.
