Creston, IA—Pleasantville High School softball standout Sydnee McKinney has committed to the Spartans of Southwestern Community College for the 2019-20 academic year.
McKinney, who spends the majority of her playing time at first base, is a four-year varsity letter winner, as well as a three-year all-academic softball selection. In addition to softball, she has played volleyball and basketball as well, earning varsity letters for two years and four years respectively. McKinney has earned all-academic honors in basketball and volleyball, as well as in her role as manager for the football team.
Nick Weinmeister, Southwestern's head softball coach, said McKinney will be a great addition to the Spartan team.
"Sydnee comes from a successful high school program and also plays for the BlackJax club program where she will continue playing until arriving on campus next fall," Weinmeister said. "We look forward to primarily utilizing her at first base, a position she is very experienced at and a position we are looking to add more depth to."
McKinney will graduate from Pleasantville High School in May 2019.
Weinmeister said he and his coaching staff are excited McKinney chose Southwestern and they look forward to watching as she continues her softball and academic career at the college.
She is the daughter of Randy and Cris McKinney of Pleasantville.
