Spartans pick up hurdler from South Africa

Rowan Wicomb of Paarl, South Africa, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to run track and field at Southwestern Community College.

Southwestern Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach Trey Bruton recently announced the addition of Rowan Wicomb for the 2020-21 seasons.

Wicomb, of Paarl, South Africa, signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Spartan track and field team today. He is the third athlete from South Africa to sign with the Spartans in recent weeks.

Wicomb specializes in the hurdle events and also runs the 400 meters. He has recorded personal best times of 16.0 in the 110 high hurdles, 59.34 in the 400 meter hurdles and has also run 53 seconds in the 400 meter dash.

"I am excited to get Rowan on campus. He has great aspirations and is a dedicated worker," Bruton said. "He has the potential to be a strong leader, and we are excited to see him blossom here at SWCC. He really brings a lot to the table for us."
