Spartans add jumper from South Africa

Carlysle Meiring of South Africa recently signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Southwestern Community College track and field team.

Southwestern Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach Trey Bruton recently announced the addition of Jerod "Carlysle" Meiring for the 2020-21 track and field season.

Meiring, from Noordwyk, South Africa, signed his National Letter of Intent earlier this week. He specializes in the long jump and triple jump, with a personal best of 13.25 meters in the triple jump.

Meiring is the second athlete from King Edward VII School to sign with Southwestern this week, after York Miles signed with the program to run cross country and track earlier this week.

"Carlysle is an abundance of raw talent; he has competed in a wide range of athletic capacities and it will be good for him to get to focus on his track and field skills," Bruton said. "With a little more event-specific work, I think he has the potential to make some great strides and perform at a very high level for us."
