The roster for the Southwestern Community College women's basketball squad has finished taking shape during the last month. With the late addition of a quick and aggressive guard, Raeven Hayes, of San Pedro, CA, Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston has a lot of talent headed his direction for the 2017-18 campaign.

Hayes, a June 2017 graduate of San Pedro High School, has speed and aggressive defensive skills, according to Loyd Hooper, head coach for Hayes' California Heartbreakers girl's AAU basketball team.

While Hayes stature may be small, standing at a mere 5 feet 3 inches, Houston said she makes up for it with her abilities.

"Raeven has great shooting range and is a good ball defender," said Houston. "She may be a late addition to the roster, but I think we were right on time in adding another outside shooting threat and a solid defender to our squad."

Hayes received a coach's award for basketball in 2014-15. Academically, she was named to the honor roll her sophomore and junior years in high school.

She is the daughter of Micaela Sanchez and Robert Hayes of San Pedro, CA.
