Coon Rapids-Bayard Forward Headed to Southwestern

Coon Rapids-Bayard High School's Tina Lair-Van Meter has committed to the Spartans women's basketball program at Southwestern Community College for the 2017-18 season.

Lair-Van Meter, who will graduate from Coon Rapids-Bayard in May, has received a number of high school honors for basketball. She was a 2017 Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Class 1A all-region team selection, a 2017 Rolling Valley Conference first team all-conference selection, and a 2016 Rolling Valley Conference honorable mention selection. In the classroom, Lair-Van Meter has excelled as an honors student.

Southwestern Head Coach Addae Houston is excited about the depth Lair-Van Meter will bring at the post position, which Houston says the Spartan team missed most this past season.

"Tina's effort on the court is unquestionable and she plays tough and physical on the interior," Houston explained. "On offense, she has the ability to step away from the basket and hit shots from mid-range that will help stretch the defense."

Houston said Lair-Van Meter will make an immediate impact rebounding the basketball for the Spartans.

Lair-Van Meter is excited to become a part of Houston's team.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to play basketball and continue my education as a Spartan," Lair-Van Meter stated.

Her high school coach, Jessica Heydon, said she "is thrilled Tina is going to continue playing basketball next year" and looks forward to following her.
